This Simple GIF Could Reveal Whether You Need Eyeglasses or Not

Do you see Albert Einstein or Marilyn Monroe?

Neuroscientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have created a simple GIF that will determine whether a person needs eyeglasses or not.

Using a hybrid image of  Albert Einstein and Marilyn Monroe, you can now detect if you have a bad vision.

All you need to do is simply look at the image at a normal viewing distance from the screen. If you see Einstein’s fine lines and wrinkles, chances are, you have a healthy pair of eyes.

But if you’re seeing the iconic American bombshell, you may need to see a doctor to have your eyes checked.

AsapSCIENCE released a video that explains what causes such phenomenon to occur. According to the video, your eye will only pick out details based on how you are able to focus or pick up contrast.

“Up close, we’re generally able to pick up fine details like Einstein’s moustache and wrinkles,” the video explains.

“But as the distance increases, or if your vision is poor and creates a more blurred image in the first place, your ability to pick up details fades away.”

People with vision problems can only see the general features of the face including the shape of the mouth, nose, and hair. Thus, only the image of Marilyn Monroe is visible to them.

In order to create the “Marilyn Einstein” hybrid optical illusion, the researchers at the MIT led by Dr Aude Oliva superimposed a blurry image of Marilyn Monroe over a photo of Albert Einstein. When combined, the two pictures produce a single image that changes when the viewer moves closer or farther away.

Aside from the “Marilyn Einstein” hybrid image, the team has also created other hybrid optical illusions for the past ten years.
