Increasing one’s longevity has been the subject of interest of many scientists through the years. Recently, a Google executive shared his astonishing regimen of gulping down 100 pills a day to live longer.
But do we really need to undergo such extreme measure to add years to our lives?
Fortunately, there are simple life hacks to extend your life and you’ll be surprised how easy it is to prolong your stay on earth.
Check out Barbara Botani’s list of life hacks to add years to your life.
1. Wear sunscreen.
While many of us are aware that wearing of sunscreen can slow down the aging of our skin, a recent study revealed that putting sunscreen can add 20 years to your life since it prevents the development of melanoma.
2. Smile at a stranger.
For some people, smiling at a complete stranger can be a tough task to do. However, researchers from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centre found the significance of showing gratitude such as smiling to our physical health. It’s the simplest way to brighten up your mood and make a difference in someone’s life.
3. Limit your coffee intake.
Coffee-lovers need to limit their intake. Researchers from the University of Gothenberg recommends up to four cups of coffee daily as it is one of the factors that “influence survival past the age of 50.”
4. Stress less.
Stressing ourselves does not solve any of our problems. In fact, anger and stress can damage our health. Focus on what matters most and try to get rid of stress-inducers in your life.
5. Be more positive.
According to Botani, negative feelings can translate to negative situations. To live a longer life, quit thinking that life is difficult. Staying positive is the key to living a longer and much better life.
6. Remove make-up at night.
Our skin’s natural restorative process occurs while we are sleeping at night. This is why it’s important to freshen up and remove our make-up before we sleep to allow our skin to breathe and recover. Leaving make-up on at night can lead to dull skin, fine lines, and wrinkles, which make us appear older.
7. Do vigorous exercises.
Doing vigorous exercises such as high intensity interval training will allow you to maintain your weight and extend your life span. According to a previous study, individuals who work out harder are 13% less likely to die prematurely compared to those who do moderate exercise.
8. Get enough sleep at night.
We’ve recently talked about the negative consequences of sleep deprivation particularly to your appearance. Moreover, lack of sleep has been linked to health issues such as depression, stroke, high blood pressure, obesity, and memory problems.
9. Stand up more.
A researched revealed that sitting for long periods of time can lead to a shorter life span. The results of the study showed that for each hour individuals spend sitting down and watching TV after the age of 25, 22 minutes were deducted from their overall life expectancy.
10. Ditch your toxic friends.
You need to say goodbye to energy sappers as they can suck the positivity in you. Usually, these pals are consistently negative, act as if they are always the victim, and turn normal everyday problems into disasters. Stick with people who bring positive vibes in your life.
