In an ideal world, we would all stay young, look young, feel young and never age. However, reality is, we encounter a lot of stress and we age as we get older. So, is there really a way to delay aging?

1. Avoid stress.

Avoiding stress is almost impossible but if you can avoid it, do so. Stress creates chemicals that can weaken muscles and degrades bones. These chemical called cortisol when produced in excess can shorten life up to five years!

2. Consume healthy fat.

Omega-3 fatty acids which are considered healthy fat helps stabilize one’s mood, maintain bone strength and helps prevents visible signs of aging. It has anti-inflammatory properties and even keeps our skin healthy and radiant. This healthy kind of fat can be found in walnut, seeds and salmon.

3. Consume lentils.

Being overweight is unhealthy and is a cause of other fatal diseases. Good thing there are lentils which can help break down the fat. It can also help stabilize blood sugar so it’s good for diabetics as well.

4. Choose fruits and veggies.

A recent study revealed that eating 10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day helps give us longer life. Consuming your greens and coloreds can actually reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, cancer and early death.

5. Eat nuts.

Nuts have been found to reduce the risk of heart attack by five times compared with people who didn’t consume them at all. So if you want a healthy heart, snack on nuts.

6. Dance.

Dancing is one of the exercises that can help us stay young. A study conducted among elderly men and women revealed that dancing improved their muscle strength by 15 per cent.

7. Take care of a pet.

Stress is a major factor in aging, but not for people who take care of pets.

A small test was conducted among a group of employees who brough their pets to work. It was then found that being with their furry friends actully lowered their blood pressure and even made them improve their work outputs.

8. Drink your green tea.

Green tea has antioxidants which is great for health. Studies have shown that it can reduce the risk of certain cancers and may even help prevent Alzheimer’s Disease. Drinking a cup of green tea a day also keeps one’s brain “young” as it makes it sharper.

9. Strengthen your mind.

Brain exercises helps one’s mind young and can help prevent cognitive decline. A study even revealed that a two week mental program can help rewire the brain. Want to keep a “young mind”? Do some word play, Sodoku and strategic electronic games.

10. Have a positive outlook in life.

There’s more to the saying that we need to stay positive to stay young. A positive attitude can actually help one live longer for up to 7 years! So, if you want to stay young and live longer, have a positive outlook in life.
